What The Owner Needs To Know About Off-Grid Systems
A well-designed off-grid system requires an accurate assessment of the electrical loads that will be used. This requires a list of the loads, along with their nameplate info (amperage, volts, watts etc.). We then need to know how many hours/day these loads will be used. This will determine how much solar and battery storage is required.
There are three main components that should go into every design. Top of Pole Solar: This allows the solar to be tilted according to the season and maximizes solar production throughout the year. Batteries: The batteries must be housed in an insulated shelter with ventilation. Backup Generator: There will be a 3-6 week period when weather conditions challenge the design’s ability to meet a client’s energy needs. The generator will be the failsafe to fill in the gap for this period.
Whether you are using more energy than anticipated, or adding electrical loads later down the road, we design the system for expansion. You will have the option of adding more solar, more battery storage, or both.
